Abstract. Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii Parry ex. Engelm.) is also known as Columbian spruce, mountain spruce, silver spruce, and white spruce (Fowells ).This species is named after George Engelmann, a German-American physician (–84), and it is one of about 50 species of spruces found in the northern hemisphere, seven of which are indigenous to North America.

RAUNKIAER LIFE FORM: Phanerophyte REGENERATION PROCESSES: Cone and seed production: Engelmann spruce can begin producing cones when 15 to 40 years old and 4 or 5 feet ( m) tall, but under closed forest conditions seed production is generally not significant until trees are older and taller.

Within natural stands, most seed is produced.Engelmann spruce seed production and dispersal, and seedling establishment in the central Rocky Mountains / (Fort Collins, Colo.: U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station, []), by Robert R.
